Developmental Education
Developmental Educators are multidisciplinary disability specialists, having completed a professional practice degree in disability studies. As allied health professionals, Developmental Educators, also known as DEs occupy roles in various disability, human service, mental health, and educational settings. Developmental Educators work with children and adults in a multidisciplinary approach developing their strengths, abilities, and skills to improve their independence and quality of life.
What services do Developmental Educators at Total Health Support provide?
- Promoting individuals with disabilities’ physical and emotional well-being by conducting a developmental and Functional Behavioural Assessment to understand why an individual uses a type of behaviour which affects them or those around them.
- Developing Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) programmes and implementing the PBS plan.
- Teaching Daily Living and Functional Life Skills, including social, communication, self-care, daily living, recreation, budgeting, anger management and employment skills
- Providing case management, support coordination, and counselling services to individuals with disabilities.
- Supporting individuals with disabilities in various settings including schools and facilitating to achieve of their personal goals.
- Working with families, service providers, allied health professionals, and community members to improve individuals with disabilities’ choice, social inclusion, and quality of life.
- Assisting individuals with disabilities in self-advocacy and/or advocating on their behalf
- Supporting people with disabilities in their transition to, access to, and retention of meaningful work experiences
- Educating families, careers, and people with disabilities about the impacts of disability on their daily lives.
