Positive Behaviour Support and Therapeutic Support
Positive Behaviour Support aims to minimise or eliminate challenging behaviour in children and adults with disabilities. It is the most effective method for children and adults with disabilities who exhibit behaviours of concern.
With the correct supports and techniques, we believe that everyone is capable of living a normal life. It is the beginning of a journey that begins with:
- Collaborating with the individual and support team on the development of a Positive Behaviour Support Plan to develop strategies.
- Strengthening their family’s capabilities and critical support systems in order to achieve the outcomes that are important to them.
- Promoting and integrating positive experiences, such as community presence and participation, into a person’s everyday routine.
- Identifying when and why behaviours of concern occur, as well as what will help them develop the skills and confidence to minimize their challenging behaviours.
- Individualised support — working with the person and key persons in their lives to obtain a better understanding of them and how they spend most of their time.
